Volunteering

Volunteer for your Plano Symphony Orchestra

Do you want to learn more about classical music?  Are you interested in contributing to the cultural life in our community?  No prior experience is necessary and all training is provided for anyone who wishes to volunteer for the Plano Symphony Orchestra.

Did you know that volunteers are the heart of the Plano Symphony Orchestra?  The moment you walk into the Eisemann Center for Performing Arts or St. Andrew United Methodist Church volunteers are making a difference.  Volunteers greet at all our concerts, they are ushers at our St. Andrew concerts, they provide hospitality at our pre and post-concert receptions, answer phones and help with many administrative office duties and are especially involved at our signature fundraising event, the Valentine Gala.  Plano Symphony volunteers are ambassadors to the communities we serve and we hold them in high regard for all they do to promote the rich concert experience our symphony provides.

Our valued volunteers are critical in our efforts to achieve and maintain the mission of the Plano Symphony Orchestra:

"It is the mission of our orchestra to inspire, educate, entertain and involve the children, youth and adults of our community in the enjoyment of great music".

Volunteering for the Plano Symphony Orchestra offers you the opportunity to become more engaged in the Symphony and its service to the community, the chance to interact with our musicians, and most importantly the satisfaction of personally contributing to the arts.

The Plano Symphony Volunteer Program:  Sign up for involvement in one of these three areas:

1. Guild

The women and men of the Plano Symphony Guild support the symphony in its commitment to cultural enrichment and the development of musical programs for children and adults.  Volunteering through Guild activities provides a direct way to learn about and positively impact the cultural arts environment in Plano and surrounding communities.  The Guild is an excellent way for newcomers to become connected to the community and for long time residents to expand their circle of friends.

Here is how you become a Guild member and volunteer:

  • Join the Plano Symphony Orchestra Association (PSOA) with an annual tax-deductible membership gift of a minimum of $50 payable by December 31 of each season.
  • Purchase any Plano Symphony Orchestra season subscription package.
  • Serve on at least one of the following Guild committees:

        Concert Services
Education (includes our Instrument Petting Zoo)
        Guest Artist Transportation & Hospitality
        Hospitality
        Membership
        Valentine Gala
        Young Artist Competition
        Office Support

2. Friends of the Symphony:

The Friends of the Symphony are individuals who support the mission of the Plano Symphony Orchestra Association by volunteering  to assist staff, the Guild and the PSOA through direct service volunteer hours. Friends of the Symphony may or may not be Guild members, but support the Symphony through the following activities:

Providing office support

  • answering phones
  • assist with mail outs
  • assist with research and grant writing
  • assist with press releases

Ushers for concerts held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church

Education Program

  • 4th Grade Concert Program
  • Instrument Petting Zoo
  • Family Symphony Sunday Series

Other duties as identified and needed

3. Applause

When it comes to teenagers volunteering, the Plano Symphony has the group Applause. Through Applause teens assist at concerts and various orchestra functions.  These teen volunteers range in age from 13 to 18 and serve as youthful ambassadors to the community.  They receive credit for service hours performed.

Click here to download the PDF application for the Applause program. Then please fill out both pages and either return the form by fax, 972-473-4639, or by mail. In both instances, please send the form to ATTN: Jane Wyen.

Are you interested?

If any of these opportunities interest you, or if you would like further information, please feel free to contact Jane Wyen at jwyen@planosymphony.org.  We could really use your help.  We look forward to your involvement in our Symphony activities in support of the Plano Symphony Orchestra.
